Joint EU-Albania-Greece Cooperation Program 2021-2027 approved by Parliamentary Committee

The Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration of the Albanian Parliament approved today the financing agreement between the Republic of Albania, Greece, and the European Commission for the IPA Greece-Albania Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2021-2027.

Mr. Ami Kozeli, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, presented the details of the agreement. The assistance fund will amount to 33.31 million euros, with 26.65 million euros financed by the EU and the remainder as co-financing from both countries.

The objective of this assistance is to support a smooth transition for the cross-border regions between Albania and Greece, invest in a sustainable economy, and reduce inequalities. Unlike the previous IPA program, this time the Fier district has also been included, meaning that the districts of Vlora, Gjirokastër, Berat, Korçë, and Fier will benefit from the program.

The program will focus on three priority directions: the first will concentrate on green policies such as promoting access to water and sustainable water management, increasing nature protection, biodiversity, and conservation of green areas. The second will focus on improving accessibility in cross-border areas, mobility, climate resilience, intelligence, etc., while the third is related to sustainable economic development and equal access to the healthcare system, etc.
