Vangjel Tavo officially receives mandate as Mayor of Himara
Vangjel Tavo has officially been granted the mandate from the State Election Commission, paving the way for his swearing-in at the Himarë Municipal Council.
Why is this significant
The decision marks the conclusion of the partial municipal elections in Himarë, which were contested and led to a legal challenge from the opposing coalition.
What happened
In a public session, the State Election Commissioner confirmed that Vangjel Tavo, nominated by the Socialist Party of Albania, received the mandate for Mayor of Himarë, Vlorë County, following the partial mayoral elections on August 4, 2024. Recently, the Electoral College dismissed a lawsuit filed by the opposing coalition “Together We Win” and the “Unity for Human Rights Party” regarding the elections in Himarë. This decision cleared the path for the Central Election Commission (KQZ) to award the mandate to Tavo, who won the election with a 1,477-vote margin over his opponent from the opposition coalition, Petro Gjikuria.
