US Embassy in Tirana Celebrates 102 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Albania
The U.S. Embassy in Albania has marked the 102nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Albania, established on July 28, 1922 through a social media post by the Embassy, highlighting the enduring partnership between the two nations.
The post emphasized that the establishment of diplomatic ties ignited a robust collaboration based on mutual respect and shared goals. It noted that despite various challenges, including periods of communist rule, the bond has remained uninterrupted for over a century, with both countries looking forward to ongoing cooperation:
On July 28, 1922, shortly after President Woodrow Wilson advocated for an independent Albanian state at the Paris Peace Conference in January 1919, the United States and Albania established diplomatic relations. On this day 102 years ago, Maxwell Blake, the American Commissioner in Albania, formally notified Albania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United States’ recognition. This pivotal moment sparked a lasting partnership based on mutual respect and shared goals. Despite challenges, including communism, this bond has remained unbroken for over a century, with both nations looking forward to continued collaboration.
U.S.-Albanian relations have evolved significantly over the past century, especially after the collapse of the communist regime. The United States have been one of the staunchest supporters of Albania’s development, democratic reforms, and integration into international organizations like NATO and Albanians are without a doubt one of the most pro-American people in the European continent and the world. In recent years, especially following the signing of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries in 2015, cooperation has intensified on a range of issues, including security, economic development, and regional stability.
