Tirana welcomes Montenegrin Cultural Week with concerts, exhibitions and performances

Tirana has reopened the International Cultural Weeks after a short summer break, launching the new season with Montenegrin Cultural Week, held from September 8-11.
The opening event took place in the Hall of Mirrors at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, where young pianist Carlo Gjurgjević performed a recital featuring works by Beethoven, Bach, Liszt, and Chopin. He concluded the evening with an improvisation inspired by Montenegrin folk themes, bridging classical tradition with modern expression.
On September 9-10, the National Library’s “Sotir Kolea” Center inaugurated the exhibition “Montenegrin Consular Representations 1880–1914”, showcasing rare documents from Montenegro’s State Archives. The display highlights the diplomatic activity of the Principality of Montenegro following the 1878 Congress of Berlin up to the outbreak of World War I, underlining the role of honorary consuls in strengthening the country’s international reputation.
From September 10-11, the National Library of Albania is hosting a special exhibition of historic books, maps, and postcards from the National Library “Đurđe Crnojević.” Highlights include Guide to Albania (Paris, 1930), The Language of the Albanians (Frankfurt, 1835), and Four Months in Albania (Berlin, 1916), alongside a significant collection of postcards depicting Albanian life in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The week concludes on September 11 with the theatrical performance “The Virgin Case” by the Montenegrin Royal Theatre “Zetski Dom,” staged at ARTurbina. The play explores the extraordinary lives of individuals in the region, exposing the hypocrisy and cruelty of society, issues that remain relevant today in the ongoing struggle for gender equality and human rights.
