Tirana hosts INTERPOL European Conference

For the first time, Tirana is hosting the European Conference of INTERPOL, a key regional gathering for the organization. The conference aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation among European police forces and follows the EU Summit held a few months ago.

Why is this relevant

This event highlights Albania’s significant progress in security and law enforcement, emphasizing its growing role in international collaboration against organized crime, which is crucial for regional stability and global security efforts.

In 2023, Albania saw a record of over 10 million visitors without any fatal crimes or incidents involving tourists. This achievement reflects the significant improvements in law and order that the country has made over the past decade, driven by the justice reforms, a reenergized fight against organized crime by the new justice institutions and a continuing vetting process within the ranks of the State Police, in order to weed out corrupt officers.

From Tuesday to Thursday, Tirana will welcome the Secretary General of INTERPOL and 53 delegations from member countries. Senior leaders of police forces and law enforcement agencies will discuss strategies for strengthening the fight against international organized crime.
