Tirana Airport unaffected by global computer system outage, worldwide delays expected
The Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy announced that the global computer system outage affecting check-in and reservation services at several international airports has not impacted Tirana International Airport “Mother Teresa” until now. Morning flights departed on schedule without issues, thanks to the airport’s dual system setup which ensures seamless operations.
However, delays are expected throughout the day for flights arriving from other airports due to disruptions at airports in other affected countries. Passengers are advised to verify their flight schedules directly with airlines or their travel agencies, as there may be changes to both arrivals and departures at TIA.
Context
Banks, airlines, telecommunications companies, broadcasters, and supermarkets in Europe and the USA have been affected by IT system problems, leading to service interruptions and halts for major businesses. Several airlines warned of delays and some airports suspended flights.
The most severe internet outage in history resulted from a software update issue by the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, causing disruptions primarily on Windows platforms. Microsoft confirmed that users may experience access issues with many of its widely-used services, affecting millions of businesses and individuals worldwide.
Experts stated that it could take several days to normalize the situation as manual adjustments are necessary to fix the affected PCs.
