Spanish Cultural Week: from flamenco to gastronomy in Tirana

From November 1 to 7, the vibrant essence of Spanish culture will come to life in Tirana during the Spanish Cultural Week. This exciting event promises a mix of flamenco performances, exhibitions, films, documentaries, architectural showcases, and a fitness workshop led by a world champion bodybuilder, creating an atmosphere that is both entertaining and educational.

The festivities kick off with the exhibition “Iconic Architecture and Engineering in Contemporary Spain,” which will be open until November 5 at the FAB Gallery, University of Arts, Tirana. Curated by Ricardo Santonja, a visual artist, photographer, and professor at the Technical School of Architecture in Madrid, this exhibition highlights architectural achievements in Spain from the late 20th century to the early 21st century, showcasing innovative designs from renowned international architects.

On November 2, a photography workshop titled “Photographic Techniques for Architectural Communication” will be conducted by Dr. Ricardo Santonja at the University of Arts, Tirana.

Starting November 2, the Spanish Movie Week will kick off with screenings at the Agimi Art Center, showcasing “Even the Rain,” and at the Maks Velo Cinema, featuring “Thesis on a Homicide,” “15 Years + 1 Day,” and “Lucky Star” throughout the week.

For those eager to experience the spirit of Spain, a concert titled “Bienvenidos a Flamenca” will take place on November 4 at the Orthodox Cathedral in Tirana, featuring Rocio Garrido, the winner of the “Best Dancer” award at the 2023 International Festival La Union, Spain’s most prestigious flamenco festival. This lively art form, rooted in southern Spain’s Andalusia, combines music, dance, and song, promising a memorable evening.

On November 5, the Marubi Film Academy will screen the documentary “Summers el rebelde,” directed by Dr. Miguel Olid Suero. The following day, November 6, Suero will hold a masterclass and press conference on “Censorship in Spanish Cinema: The Process of Producing a Documentary.”

Sports enthusiasts will have the chance to attend a masterclass by world champion fitness athlete Miguel Seijo in the Tonin Harapi Hall at the Artistic High School. Seijo will share insights on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of dedication, training, and a balanced diet, while also inspiring young people to pursue their dreams and develop good habits for a healthy body.

The Spanish Cultural Week will conclude with a Spanish Gastronomy Night on November 7 at The Crown Hotel, featuring tastings of the country’s renowned cuisine and wines, celebrated worldwide for their diversity and quality.
