The 16th edition of “Sofra Pukjane,” (The Puka Feast or Table) a festival celebrating Puka’s cultural heritage, brought together intellectuals, business leaders, and locals to promote the town’s potential for tourism and investment. The event was organized in collaboration with the Puka Municipality and other local stakeholders.

Why is this significant: “Sofra Pukjane” showcases Puka’s rich cultural and historical heritage but also positions it as a key destination for tourism in northern Albania. With growing interest in agrotourism and local investments, the festival represents a broader effort to boost the local economy and encourage Albanians abroad to return and invest.

Context: Puka, a northern Albanian town known for its natural beauty, has become a popular tourist destination in recent years. Investments by both central and local governments have improved infrastructure, drawing more visitors. Events like “Sofra Pukjane” help promote the town’s offerings, including traditional music, dances, and locally produced organic goods.

The festival featured the annual agricultural fair, Agro-Fest, where local farmers and artisans presented their organic products and handmade crafts. Held in Puka’s main square, the fair promotes the town’s agricultural sector and strengthens its appeal for sustainable tourism.

Promoting Tourism and Investment: “Sofra Pukjane” aims to attract former residents of Puka, many of whom have left for better opportunities abroad, to return and invest in tourism. Tonin Alia, the festival’s organizer, emphasized the importance of restoring traditional towers and building guesthouses to accommodate tourists. “We aim to unite local business leaders to help Puka and encourage others to return and invest,” said Alia.

Puka’s Mayor, Rrok Dodaj, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the municipality’s commitment to facilitating private sector investments. “By improving conditions, we will attract businesses and strengthen Puka’s economic foundation,” Dodaj stated.

Tourism in Albania and Puka’s growth: Tourism has become crucial for Albania’s economy, with Puka emerging as a key destination for agrotourism. The town’s pristine environment and cultural festivals, like Sofra Pukjane, continue to draw tourists from Albania and abroad.
