Sali Berisha hires Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign consultant for May 11 elections

Chris LaCivita, the political consultant credited with Donald Trump’s successful 2024 U.S. presidential campaign, has been contracted by Albania’s Democratic Party (PD) to lead its campaign for the May 11 elections. LaCivita was introduced by Sali Berisha as the architect who will help bring the Democratic Party back to power. “Today marks the beginning of a campaign that will restore Albania to the path of hope, law, and development,” Berisha declared.

Why is this important: Chris LaCivita is a high-profile figure in U.S. politics, and his involvement has surprised many, including Berisha himself who seemed surprised LaCivita had accepted to work for DP. LaCivita, who according to reports in media earned $22 million for his role in Trump’s campaign, brings significant expertise. However, the announcement raised significant questions about the ability of the financially struggling Democratic Party to pay for such expensive his consultancy. Berisha refused to answer media questions about the contract’s details but promised further updates.

Context: Berisha frequently draws parallels between himself and Donald Trump, arguing that both have faced unjust political persecution. He alleges that a global campaign led by financier George Soros and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken sought to eliminate conservative opposition in both Albania and the U.S.

“Soros and his puppets, including Blinken, have done everything to destroy Albania’s conservative opposition. But we stood strong, and our platform today offers the best solution to save Albania,” Berisha said.

What was said: LaCivita echoed Berisha’s sentiments, criticizing Edi Rama’s ties to Soros. He emphasized that Berisha is the United States’ true friend in Albania.

“You cannot be both Soros’ puppet and a friend of America,” LaCivita said. “Like Donald Trump, Berisha has been unjustly persecuted by a government that does not respect democracy. But we believe in his victory and in restoring Albania’s greatness.”

What’s next: Since Trump’s return to the White House, Berisha has frequently praised his policies and has introduced legislation inspired by Trump’s administration, including a proposal to legally define only two genders in Albania. Berisha has also expressed confidence that Trump’s influence will lead to the lifting of his “non grata” designation, imposed by the Biden administration over major corruption allegations.
