Public health officials warn of an extreme heat wave with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius
A rainy and windy start to the summer season raised hopes for a cooler summer, but in recent days, extremely high temperatures have been recorded across Albania and the region.
Why is this relevant
The high temperatures — 43 degrees Celsius expected in the coming days — come at a time when the tourist season is in full swing, with tens of thousands of tourists visiting the country’s beaches, cultural, and historic sites. Public health officials have issued strong warnings for people to be careful and take measures to avoid any risks to their health and well-being.
Experts caution people, especially tourists who are not used to the heat, to hydrate regularly, eat lightly, and especially avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours, between 11:00 and 17:00. The elderly, children, or those suffering from any pre-existing health conditions should be particularly cautious under these weather conditions.
In recent years, Albania has been experiencing significant changes in its weather, with heat waves increasingly hitting the country during the summer months.
