Prestigious Spanish firm wins competition to design landmark hotel in Shkodra

A new hotel and tower will be constructed in the center of Shkodra, with the winning project designed by Selgascano Architects from Madrid. The project was chosen from among five proposals presented in an international architecture competition, with Prime Minister Edi Rama serving as a member of the jury.

The new Hotel Rozafa will be built next to the existing hotel of the same name. Although the investment is private, Prime Minister Rama envisions it as a landmark intended to create an icon for Shkodra of the 21st century. Shkodra is rich in historical monuments, but the high-rise building is expected to become a significant addition to the city’s heritage for future generations.

The participating studios included:

  • Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT Architects from Barcelona
  • Kuehn Malvezzi Architects from Berlin
  • Selgascano Architects from Madrid
  • Baukuh Architects from Milan
  • Piero Lissoni & Partners from Milan

The announcement underscores Albania’s growing reputation as a destination attracting many world-renowned architecture firms, further enhancing its urban and cultural landscape.
