Passenger traffic at Rinas Airport records spectacular passenger growth from pre-pandemic 2019 levels to August 2024
Passenger numbers at Rinas Airport have surged by 259.4% from 2019 to August 2024, according to the International Airports Council.
Context
Prior to 2019, Rinas Airport was considered a regional hub with limited traffic, partly due to high ticket prices and the presence of only three airline partnerships, which reduced market competition. The introduction of low-cost flights and a growing interest from European tourists in Albanian tourism have significantly boosted passenger numbers.
The International Airports Council ranks Albania first in passenger growth, surpassing not only regional tourism hotspots but also many European countries. Croatia saw an 18.2% increase, Italy 14.7%, North Macedonia 19.6%, and Serbia 32%. Montenegro experienced a 12.5% decline in traffic through Podgorica Airport, while Kosovo recorded a notable 71.2% increase.
