Number of licensed tourist guides doubles in 2 years

The growing influx of foreign tourists coming to Albania and the extension of the touristic season throughout the year, has led to a marked increase in the number of licensed tourist guides and applications for licenses.

Why is this relevant

Data released from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment reveals that the number of licensed national tour guides has almost doubled from 2022 t0 2023. There are currently 400 licensed national guides and 91 new licenses have been issued only in the first half of 2024. These licenses cover the whole territory and are giving a significant contribution to improving the quality of touristic services in Albania. According to tour operators, most tourists tend to spend up to 50% of their time in Albania travelling and exploring various sites and going on excursions, with historical areas, in cities like Berat, Kruja, Gjirokastra, Tirana, being some of the top destinations. The increase in the number of guides who can offer their services in languages other than English, e.g. Polish, German, Czech, Spanish, is contributing to an increase in the number of such visits and tours and to growing tourist satisfaction.
