Nomination process for new State Police Chief to conclude by week’s end

The Minister of Interior Ervin Hoxhaj announced that the nomination of the new Chief of State Police will be ready by the end of the week. Speaking before the Parliamentary Commission for National Security, Hoxhaj stated that he will present the selected candidate’s name to the Prime Minister for approval.

He noted that four out of the 15 initial candidates have been disqualified, leaving 11 still in the running, of which one will be selected over the coming days. He assured the MPs that the process is ongoing and transparent, countering opposition claims that the decision has already been made by the Prime Minister.

Opposition reactions

Opposition MPs voiced strong skepticism, arguing that the selection process is merely a facade and that the Prime Minister has already pre-selected the candidate. Minister Hoxhaj dismissed these claims, emphasizing that the competition remains open and is being monitored by international institutions.
