New record in passenger traffic for Tirana Airport for first quarter of 2024
According to Airport Council International (ACI), passenger traffic for Tirana’s Rinas International Airport grew by 260.8% for the first quarter of 2024, compared to pre-pandemic 2019 data.
Why is this relevant
The rising passenger traffic at Albania’s sole international airport highlights the booming tourism sector, with 15 million tourists expected in 2024, up from 10.1 million in 2023.
The news was welcomed by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who commented that this influx will translate into benefits for all Albanians.
Even April came with an impressive increase and now Albania’s reborn tourism sector is a fact that the whole world can see… This means more income for the family economy of all those connected to the value chain of the tourism industry, more investments in our hospitality infrastructure, more employment and higher wages in the service sectors, more revenues for the state treasury without the need to increase taxes, but also more pride and dignity for Albania at the international stage, the Prime Minister wrote.
According to the information from Rinas airport, air traffic has also increased compared to other years. This places Rinas among the airports with the highest growth in the number of flights, leaving behind many other countries, like Greece, Portugal, Turkey, Spain or Italy and confirms the consolidation of Albania’s position as an important tourist destination.
