New cultural and recreational center opens in the birthplace of Father Gjergj Fishta in Lezhë

A new cultural and recreational center has been inaugurated in Fishtë, Lezhë, dedicated to the memory and vibrant creative spirit of Father Gjergj Fishta, the renowned Albanian poet and priest. The center, which was officially opened by Prime Minister Edi Rama, promises to be a hub for artistic and literary endeavors.

This multifunctional cultural space includes areas for artistic and literary residencies, exhibitions, creative sessions, and cultural activities. One of its key features is a pedestrian path that links the center to the house where Father Fishta lived, which has also been restored and opened to the public.

Alongside the cultural center, the “Fishtë Itinerary” project, which celebrates the life and works of Father Gjergj Fishta, includes the restoration of key landmarks. These include the Mesi Bridge, the fortresses of Durrës and Lezhë, and the museumification of the house where Fishta spent his early years. Additionally, a new memorial space is being constructed at the believed birthplace of Father Fishta in his hometown.

The project, which has been promised for decades, is seen as an important milestone for both the local community and the Fishta family, as it not only preserves the historical sites associated with Fishta but also invites the public to explore the life and legacy of one of Albania’s most important cultural figures.
