Nancy Van Horn appointed as Chargé d’Affaires of U.S. Embassy in Tirana
Nancy VanHorn will lead the U.S. Embassy in Tirana as Chargé d’Affaires. VanHorn has been a diplomat since 2007, serving in various posts across Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, Armenia, and Russia.
Context
Since July of last year, when former U.S. Ambassador Yuri Kim completed her term and departed Albania, the U.S. Embassy in Tirana has been led by chargé d’affaires. Before Van Horn, the embassy was under the direction of David Wisner.
The successor to Yuri Kim, David Kostelancik, was re-nominated by President Joe Biden and approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in April of this year. However, his nomination, along with several other ambassadorial candidates proposed by President Biden, is still awaiting confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
