Madame Butterfly returns to the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet
Puccini’s Masterpiece Madame Butterfly will shortly return to the stage of the National Theater of Opera and Ballet after an 8 year absence. The masterpiece will be brought to the Albanian public under the interpretation of Italian soprano Anna Pirozi and director Manu Lalli.
Premiered at La Scala in 1904, Madame Butterfly remains one of the most successful operas in history. Its story still resonates today, more than a century later. According to Pirozi “The situation experienced by Madame Butterfly exists in our society today, in Italy and everywhere. She was an exploited, abandoned girl, and this violence still exists today. With this show, we bring back these strong themes in order to draw attention and raise awareness.”
The operatic work will be staged as a new production by the “Festival Puccini di Torre di Lago” with the performance of Italian artists and the soloists of the Albanian National Theater of Opera and Ballet. The show will be staged from 26 May to 1 June and has attracted huge interest from the Albanian public.
