Joni Keta proposed to lead Albania’s National Bureau of Investigation for five-year term
The Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) has nominated Joni Keta to serve as Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH) for the next five years. The decision follows a selection process concluded Wednesday by the Appointment Commission.
Why is this important: If approved, Keta would take over permanent leadership of the BKH, a key institution supporting SPAK in the fight against corruption and organized crime. The nomination marks the culmination of a competitive selection that involved physical, logic, and integrity assessments.
Context: Keta was chosen by a three-member commission composed of SPAK Chief Altin Dumani and prosecutors Arben Kraja and Behar Dibra. The commission has now forwarded the proposal to the High Council of Prosecution (KLP), which holds the final decision-making power.
Keta has a long career in law enforcement. He previously served as a judicial police officer at the former Serious Crimes Prosecution Office and has been a special investigator at BKH since its creation. Since September, he has served as acting director following the end of Aida Hajnaj’s mandate.
Selection process: Out of 11 initial candidates, Keta scored highest in a multi-phase evaluation that tested physical fitness, cognitive ability, professional background, and financial transparency.
If confirmed by the KLP, Keta will oversee investigative operations at BKH until 2030.
