International Dance Festival by Angelin Preljocaj returns to Tirana with artists from across Europe

The International Dance Festival of Tirana, led by world-renowned Albanian-French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, will take place from October 9 to 25, bringing artists and dance companies from across Europe to the Albanian capital.

Now in its fourth edition, the festival will feature performances at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the National Theatre, Metropol Theatre, Puppet Theatre, and more than 10 surprise public locations across Tirana. All shows in public spaces will be free, aiming to bring contemporary dance closer to citizens.

Preljocaj, through a video message shared by Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja invited Albanians to join what he called a “celebration of modern dance.” He emphasized that this year’s program is designed to “fill the city with life, movement, and joy.”

Context: Preljocaj, born in France to Albanian parents, is celebrated as one of Europe’s leading contemporary choreographers, blending classical ballet with modern dance. Since founding his company in 1985, he has performed worldwide and frequently returned to Albania with free shows for the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

This year’s edition continues his mission of reconnecting with Albania and making world-class contemporary dance accessible to the public.
