Foreign direct investment in Albania reaches €1.58 billion in 2024

Albania continues to attract not only tourists but also foreign investors. According to official data from the Bank of Albania, the country saw €1.58 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2024, marking an increase of €92 million compared to 2023.
Why is this important: The growth in FDI highlights Albania’s increasing appeal to international businesses, particularly in sectors like real estate, extractive industries, and manufacturing. These investments play a crucial role in supporting economic growth, creating jobs, and modernizing infrastructure.
Context: In the last quarter of 2024 alone, foreign companies invested €423 million in Albania. The majority of this amount came from reinvested earnings, indicating long-term confidence in the country’s business environment.
Real estate remains the leading sector for foreign capital, with €379 million injected into the economy last year. Investors have shown particular interest in residential and commercial properties in Tirana and along the coastline, reflecting the growing demand for both urban and tourism-related developments.
Following real estate, the extractive sector attracted €214 million, while manufacturing drew €173 million in foreign investments.
Leading investors: The Netherlands maintained its position as Albania’s largest foreign investor, followed by Italy and Turkey. These countries have consistently played a significant role in supporting Albania’s economic development.
