Foreign direct investment in Albania hits record €1.58 billion in 2024

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Albania reached a record €1.58 billion in 2024, up €92 million or 5.6% from the previous year, according to the Bank of Albania.

Why this is important: The steady rise in FDI reflects investor confidence in Albania’s economy, with real estate and energy leading the way. It also highlights the country’s growing appeal to key European and regional partners.

Context: The real estate sector attracted the most foreign capital, totaling €379 million. It was followed by extractive industries (€214 million), manufacturing (€173 million), and electricity (€166 million).

In Q4 alone, FDI hit €423 million, with most of the inflow categorized as reinvested earnings—an indicator of sustained investor engagement.

Top investor countries included the Netherlands, Italy, and Turkey, maintaining their position as Albania’s largest FDI sources.
