Edi Rama gathers Socialist mayors to focus on diaspora vote
Albanian Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama convened a meeting with all Socialist mayors, with a key focus on the diaspora vote.
Why is it important
Both the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party view the diaspora vote as critical for determining the outcome of the 2025 parliamentary elections. For the first time, Albanian emigrants will be able to vote via mail from their host countries, making their participation pivotal.
Context
Rama emphasized the need for each municipality to identify citizens living abroad and to inform them about the registration process, which begins in January. He also tasked mayors with appointing a dedicated coordinator for diaspora-related affairs in every institution. This strategic move follows the recent appointment of a new political leader dedicated exclusively to the diaspora, reflecting the party’s focus on securing votes from Albanians living abroad.
