Albania has officially selected the film “Drop of Water” to represent the country at the 97th Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category. The decision was made by the Selection Committee at the National Center of Cinematography during a meeting held yesterday.

The only submission received was from Era Film, which produced “Drop of Water,” directed by Robert Budina. The committee voted unanimously in favor of this nomination. 

The film premiered just a week ago in theaters in the capital, Tirana. Written by Robert Budina, Doruntina Basha, and Ajola Daja, “Drop of Water” follows the story of Aida, a woman who has reached the pinnacle of power in her city. However, her life takes a drastic turn when her son Marku becomes embroiled in a serious accusation, forcing Aida to confront how far she is willing to go to protect him.

Described as an emotional thriller, “Drop of Water” explores the true cost of power and parental love. The film has received funding from various organizations, including the National Center of Cinematography, MIBAC, the National Center of Cinematography of Kosovo, the North Macedonia Film Agency, and Creative Europe Media.
