Democratic MP Albana Vokshi faces anonymous corruption allegations filed with SPAK

Democratic Party MP Albana Vokshi has been reported to the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) for alleged corruption and money laundering in early September, in a case that mirrors the procedure that led to the investigation and detention of Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj.
Why is this important: The complaint was filed by an anonymous source using the pseudonym “Nesti Angoni,” the same fictional name cited in the complaint that triggered Veliaj’s investigation and eventual arrest on February 10, 2025. This is a poignant moment for SPAK, which despite publicly acknowledging in the Veliaj case that “Nesti Angoni” was an invented persona, initiated a full-scale investigation into Veliaj and sent him to trial. It remains to be seen whether SPAK will show the same zeal in pursuing Vokshi’s case as it did against the socialist mayor.
Context: The complaint reportedly targets Vokshi, her partner, and her sister, alleging multiple instances of corrupt conduct and a scheme to launder proceeds through privatizations and concessions. The Socialist Party had previously accused Vokshi and her sister of benefiting from the privatization of oil and gas fields — claims that have circulated for years without triggering judicial action.
Reacting on social media, Vokshi rejected the allegations outright:
“If they think they will silence me with slander and anonymous letters, they are wrong! If they think they will scare me with SPAK, they are wrong!”
She vowed to continue denouncing government corruption and framed the move as political persecution.
Political implications: The case is politically damaging for DP, because Vokshi has built her profile as one of the most aggressive voices of the opposition. The accusations now directed at her involve alleged abuses with oil and gas concessions and privatizations, including during a period when her sister served as Director of Privatizations at the Ministry of Economy.
But the case also tests SPAK’s credibility at a sensitive time. The institution faces scrutiny over whether it applies the law uniformly. If SPAK hesitates, critics will argue that the system shields opposition figures while punishing those in power.
Next steps: SPAK has not yet confirmed whether a preliminary investigation has been formally opened. If the case advances, prosecutors will have to collect evidence beyond the anonymous complaint before deciding whether to bring charges against the MP and her family members.
