Concerns grow over the health of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania

Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres and All Albania and Head of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, has been hospitalized in Athens since January 3, 2025. While details about his condition remain scarce, Greek media report that he is in critical condition.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens visited the hospital on Sunday, where they were briefed on the 95-year-old’s condition by pulmonology and intensive care specialist Dr. Anastasia Kotanidou, according to CNN Greece.

Archbishop Anastasios was transported to Athens on a Greek Air Force plane on Friday after his health worsened. Initially hospitalized in Tirana due to a seasonal virus, his condition was deemed critical, requiring specialized care in Athens.

In addition to the virus, Archbishop Anastasios is reportedly suffering from gastric hemorrhaging, which poses a significant threat to his health. Concerns remain high as the religious leader undergoes intensive medical treatment.
