CEC certifies election results, DP launches challenges

The Central Election Commission has officially certified the final results of the May 11 parliamentary elections, concluding the counting process across all 12 districts.

Why is this important: While the certification marks the formal end of the electoral process, the Democratic Party is preparing to contest it in court. The post-election battle is now focused on challenging the validity of the vote in several districts, starting with Kukës. DP is calling for the annulment and repetition of elections, citing unresolved issues with the diaspora vote—specifically ballots from Greece and the arrival of documentation via DHL.

Context: According to CEC chair Ilirjan Celibashi, all materials from the postal process have been delivered and will be made available to the Democratic Party. But the opposition argues that no certification should have occurred before full verification of the vote abroad. Additional legal complaints are expected in the coming days.

The Democratic Party plans to expand its appeal to other regions, keeping the electoral dispute open well beyond the formal close of the vote-counting process.
