Democratic Party (PD) Chairman Sali Berisha announced a nationwide protest for October 29, hours after Ilir Meta’s arrest. He urged local PD leaders to mobilize citizensin every district to “paralyze the regime.”
What he said: Berisha condemned the arrest as a “political kidnapping” ordered by Prime Minister Edi Rama. He accused the government of using police violence to detain Meta, calling it an act of repression.
“This is terrorism,” Berisha said. He highlighted Meta’s political contributions, including support during Kosovo’s war and his efforts to defend constitutional democracyas president.
What’s next: The protests aim to escalate civil disobedience against what Berisha calls Rama’s attempt to crush the opposition. Berisha himself is currently under house arrest awaiting trial for corruption.
