Berisha after election loss: “The fight begins now, Albanians must be patient”

Opposition leader Sali Berisha again rejected the May 11 election results in a press conference, calling them a “farce” and accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government of manipulating diaspora votes.
Why this is important: Berisha’s refusal to accept the election outcome signals continued political confrontation. His call for early elections and a technical government comes as international recognition of the Socialist Party’s victory grows, isolating the Democratic Party’s position.
Context: In his statement, Berisha promised to reveal evidence of vote theft and called on citizens not to lose hope.
“This fight begins now. We will not surrender. Edi Rama cannot impose this stolen result on Albanians,” he said.
He emphasized that the opposition will build a broad front to challenge the current government, “inside and outside the country.”
What’s next: Berisha said he would present evidence “day by day” and declared that the Democratic Party will not recognize the new parliament. He did not exclude escalating protests in the coming months.
