At the Switzerland Summit, Albanian President supports Ukraine Peace Proposal
Albanian President Bajram Begaj declared Albania’s support for the peace proposal presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Ukraine Summit in Switzerland.
Context
The Peace Summit for Ukraine at Burgenstock was attended by delegates from over 90 countries and aims to outline initial steps toward a peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine, based on a ten-point peace formula proposed by President Zelensky.
During his address, President Begaj declared that the challenge is monumental but that it is crucial for peace to be established between Ukraine and Russia. He affirmed that Albania will continue to support Ukraine, its sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and will continue to ask for Russia to be held accountable for its actions.
Albania has been very active in supporting Ukraine diplomatically. During its two-year mandate at the United Nations Security Council, Albania was co-penholder of the Ukraine file with the United States and in this capacity initiated a number of important initiatives aimed at supporting Ukraine and isolating Russia. This action enjoys overwhelming support among Albanians, who see echoes of the bloody Balkan wars of the 1990s in Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.
