Albin Kurti: Serbia abducted Kosovo citizen for opposing Vučić’s regime
Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accused Serbia of abducting a Kosovo citizen on political grounds, claiming the individual was targeted by Serbian gendarmerie because he is an opponent of President Aleksandar Vučić’s policies.
Why is this important: The incident risks escalating already tense relations between Pristina and Belgrade, with Kosovo accusing Serbia of violating its territorial integrity and using cross-border operations to intimidate Kosovo Serbs who don’t align with Belgrade.
Context: Speaking at a press conference, Kurti said the alleged abduction and wounding of a Kosovo Serb citizen — identified by initials M.V. — took place within Kosovo territory, near the Leposaviq area on November 1.
“Everything indicates he was attacked because he opposes the politics and regime of Aleksandar Vučić,” Kurti stated.
He added that Kosovo Police, KFOR, and EULEX were present at the scene and that investigations are ongoing.
“It’s clear our northern neighbor is continuing its attacks — aiming to discipline Kosovo Serbs and destabilize our country,” Kurti said.
Kosovo police believe the incident occurred in the “zero point” area — a disputed border stretch within Kosovo, populated mostly by ethnic Serbs. Serbia has yet to comment on the case.
