Albania’s tourism grows by 86%, leading regional growth
According to a recent report from the European Travel Commission, tourist arrivals in Albania have increased by 86%. This places Albania at the forefront of regional tourism growth, significantly outpacing neighboring countries such as Serbia (48%), Montenegro (31%), Greece (22%), and Turkey (20%). In contrast, many Western nations are experiencing declines in tourist numbers.
Why is this relevant
The report underscores a consistent upward trend in Albania’s tourism sector over recent years.
Notably, smaller countries like Albania and Montenegro have experienced the most robust growth in the first half of 2024. Southern European destinations, including Albania, are driving growth in European tourism, benefiting from favorable climate conditions ahead of the summer season and affordable travel costs.
The European Travel Commission highlights Albania’s increasing appeal to international visitors, particularly with a notable rise in arrivals from Asia. Government data indicates that from January to June, Albania welcomed 1.7 million entries from Kosovo, a significant 25% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, Italian tourists reached 486,000 during the same period, representing a remarkable 57% rise. Turkish visitors surged by 61%, while Polish arrivals increased by 74%, exceeding 100,000 by June.
With 10 million visitors recorded in 2023, local forecasts anticipate continued significant growth throughout 2024, reinforcing Albania’s position as a leading destination in European tourism.
