Albanian Parliament Speaker Lindita Nikolla resigns due to health reasons

Lindita Nikolla, the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, has announced her resignation due to health reasons. Nikolla made the announcement during the final plenary session of the current parliamentary session.
Context
Lindita Nikolla has held the position of Parliament Speaker since September 2021, following the Socialist Party’s third consecutive mandate. In her resignation statement, Nikolla explained that her decision was driven by a personal health situation. She urged her colleagues, particularly those from the opposition, to avoid political speculation regarding her departure, emphasizing that the decision was both unwelcome and inevitable.
Nikolla joined the Socialist Party in 2007, when she was appointed by then-Mayor Edi Rama to lead one of the 11 municipal units of the capital, Tirana. Since 2013, she has served as a Member of Parliament and held the position of Minister of Education for nearly six years, from September 2013 to May 2017 and again from September 2017 to January 2019.
Nikolla will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament until the end of this legislative session.
