Albanian food safety authority blocks shipment of contaminated Brazilian chicken

The National Food Authority (AKU) has blocked a large shipment of 18.5 tons of imported chicken from Brazil after tests detected the presence of Salmonella Typhimurium, a bacterium that poses serious health risks. The contaminated batch was identified following routine inspections at the Port of Durrës and further testing conducted by the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary (ISUV) on March 21, 2025. Upon confirming the presence of the harmful bacteria, AKU coordinated with relevant authorities to track, verify, and seize the product.
