Albania Post opens dedicated stamp museum showcasing over 4,000 models

Albanian Post inaugurated a postal stamp museum within the Albanian Post Gallery, showcasing over 4,000 different stamp models, along with authentic vintage postal objects.

Why this news is significant

The museum stands as a unique historical archive, highlighting the pivotal role and function of Albania Post, one of the country’s oldest institutions, established on December 5, 1912 mere days after the declaration of independence. It offers a dedicated space for the exhibition of postal stamps issued over the years.

Context

The history of Albanian national stamps dates back to May 5, 1913, with an intensive stamp issuing activity by the government of Ismail Qemali. The gallery is divided into three periods: the first from 1913 to 1944, the second from 1945 to 1990, and the third from 1991 to the present day. The post-liberation period to the 1990s offers an intriguing view of Albanian philatelic history. Visitors can also watch a documentary on the history of Albanian postal stamps in the video room, beautifully intertwined with Albania’s history since its independence on November 28, 1912.

The museum is open Monday through Friday from 09:00 to 16:00 and is closed on weekends.
