Opposition protest in Albania to block roads today
At 17:00 today, the opposition will begin its protest. According to the police authorization it will last until 20:00. The Milot roundabout is expected to be one of the hotspota, with northern Democrats gathering there, except for Dibra, whose members will join the demonstration in Tirana.
Why is this important: The protest aims to pressure the government with widespread road blockages. This escalation follows rising political tensions after a violent but poorly attended protest on October 7th.
Details:
- Tirana (Shqiponja Square): Tirana and Dibra democrats will block key entry and exit points.
- Milot Roundabout: Northern democrats gather, excluding Dibra.
- Bradashesh Roundabout: Participants from Korça and Elbasan.
- Shkozet Roundabout: Protesters from Durrës, Kruja, and Shijak.
- Rrogozhinë Roundabout: Groups from Kavajë, Lushnjë, Divjakë, and Rrogozhinë.
- Levan Roundabout: Participants from Fier, Gjirokastër, Vlorë, and Berat.
Background: Police are deploying traffic control units 30 minutes before the protest begins. Special intervention forces will also be on standby to maintain public order. The Democratic Party (DP) has hinted at more disruptive tactics following their previous protest on October 7th, which escalated into violence. Authorities have warned that blocking roads is illegal, though the opposition insists it will continue its campaign to hold the government accountable.
