Albania leads Western Balkans in employment policies according to OECD report

Albania has been ranked first in the region in terms of employment policies, according to the 2024 OECD report on competitiveness and private sector development.

The ranking confirms Albania’s successful implementation of policies aimed at activating the labor market and strengthening skill development and the country’s progress in creating a conducive environment for job growth and economic development.

Context

The Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, emphasized that Albania’s leading position is a result of continuous reforms and efforts to enhance the labor market’s dynamics.

According to the OECD report, Albania scored the highest with 3.5 points in the employment dimension among the six Western Balkan countries. It surpassed Montenegro, which scored 3.4 points; Serbia with 3.3 points; North Macedonia with 3.1 points; Bosnia and Herzegovina with 2.2 points, and Kosovo with 2 points. This report measures the progress of policies in key economic areas across the Western Balkans, focusing specifically on labor market direction.
