Albania faces 21 wildfires in last 24 hours, efforts underway to contain remaining active fires

Albania has been grappling with a surge in wildfires, with 21 outbreaks reported across the country within just 24 hours, according to the National Center of Civil Emergency Operations.

As of the latest update, firefighting forces have successfully extinguished 18 fires, leaving 3 still active. The Armed Forces and Firefighting Units, in collaboration with forestry services, are currently focused on completely extinguishing the blazes in Pregjë-Lurë village, Dibër. Efforts are also ongoing to control the fires in Shënmëri village in Mirditë and the fire between Goranxi and Derviçan villages in Lower Dropull.

The situation has been exacerbated by extremely high temperatures, difficult terrain, and strong winds, which have caused the fires to spread rapidly in areas such as Dhuvjan, Goranxi, and Derviçan.

The Armed Forces remain on high alert to assist in firefighting operations whenever their intervention is required. Authorities are urging residents to cooperate with local authorities by promptly reporting wildfires to prevent them from spreading further.
