Sali Berisha: Court ruling exposes cracks in Rama’s majority
Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha welcomed the Constitutional Court’s decision to reinstate Erion Veliaj, framing it as a political blow to Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.
Berisha said the ruling revealed deep fractures within the Socialist majority, describing Veliaj as Rama’s “main internal rival” and suggesting the prime minister had overplayed his hand.
“This was a gift from Rama to Veliaj,” Berisha said, accusing the government of breaching constitutional and human rights standards.
While Berisha’s support for Veliaj is strategic, his remarks underline growing tensions inside the ruling bloc — now forced to manage a mayor it tried to remove.
