Chinese Cultural Week in Albania: from art to cuisine

Tirana and Elbasan are hosting Chinese Cultural Week from 22 to 26 September, offering a rich program of exhibitions, concerts, performances, and culinary experiences that showcase the depth of Chinese tradition and its dialogue with modernity. The events are organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China with the support of Albania’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, as part of the International Cultural Weeks 2025.
The week opened yesterday, 22 September, with the exhibition “Close as Distant Horizons” at FAB Gallery in Tirana, which runs until 25 September. The show features around 40 works by renowned Shanghai artists Wu Jun and Lin Zhaoyang. Their paintings, noted for their symbolism and individuality, explore the interplay between traditional Chinese aesthetics and contemporary creativity. The opening was attended by the two artists, China’s Ambassador to Albania Pang Chunxue, the Rector of the University of Arts Prof. Dr. Erald Bakalli, Ministry representative Brisi Trajko, and numerous art enthusiasts.
On 23 September, the program moves to Skampa Theatre in Elbasan with the concert “Melodies Along the Silk Road”, which blends centuries-old traditions with modern vocal and instrumental interpretations. The performance draws inspiration from classical poetry and natural imagery.
On 24 September, Tirana will host “Graceful Rhythms in Motion” at the University of Arts Hall, offering audiences an immersive panorama of Chinese opera, dance, and interactive performances. Highlights include the Kunqu opera, traditional and ethnic dances, and the solo piano piece “Pihuang.”
The week concludes on 26 September with “The Taste of China” on Murat Toptani Pedestrian Street in Tirana, where visitors will experience authentic Chinese cuisine in a vibrant gastronomic showcase.
