Zelensky calls Rama, invites Albania to next Ukraine summit

Ten days after the European Political Community summit brought 40 European leaders to Tirana, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to discuss continued cooperation and upcoming diplomatic events.
Why is this important: The call underscores the strong diplomatic ties between Albania and Ukraine and the two leaders, particularly as Albania positions itself as a vocal supporter of Ukraine on the international stage. It also reaffirms Tirana’s role as a reliable actor in European security affairs, coming on the heels of Albania’s high-profile hosting of the EPC summit.
Context: In a public message posted on social media platform X, Zelensky said he had a “good conversation” with Rama and briefed him on Russia’s most recent missile and drone attacks. He emphasized that such strikes prove Moscow has no intention of ending the war and called for stronger international pressure.
During the call, Zelensky invited Rama to participate in the upcoming Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit and confirmed that Albania would be represented. The Ukrainian president also thanked Albania for its consistent support for Ukraine and its people.
The call adds another layer to what has become an active foreign policy season for Albania, as the country seeks to solidify its profile as a reliable European partner in regional and global affairs.
