Llogara Tunnel opens for summer travel

The Llogara Tunnel is now open to vehicle traffic, easing the route to Albania’s southern coast.

Why is this important: Stretching 6 km in length, the tunnel significantly shortens travel time to the Riviera by bypassing the sharp turns of the Llogara Pass. From now until September 15, passage is free of charge for all vehicles.

Context: The tunnel, which takes just 7 minutes to traverse, was temporarily opened last July for the summer season before closing in November to complete remaining construction work. Considered a major infrastructure investment in southern Albania, the project is expected to boost tourism in one of the country’s most visited regions.
