Spain to extradite notorious gang leader Lulzim Berisha to Albania
Spain is set to extradite Lulzim Berisha, the former leader of one of Albania’s most notorious criminal organizations, the so-called Durrës Gang, known for its involvement in murder, drug and arms trafficking, and organized crime. Berisha was arrested in Madrid on December 14, 2023, despite attempts to evade capture by altering his appearance with tattoos and disguises. He has been wanted for multiple serious crimes, including the 2005 execution of his rival on the Tirana-Durrës highway. After months of legal battles to block extradition, he is expected to arrive at Rinas Airport in Tirana today under heavy security measures.
