The new theater season at “Aleksandër Moisiu” Theater in Durrës opened on Saturday night with the premiere of “15 April Days”, a drama by Anisa Markarian. The newly appointed theater director, Alketa Tragaj Myshketa, shared insights into the preparatory work behind the production.

Why is this important: The play brings together a large ensemble cast, offering a powerful portrayal of Albanian life and history. Featuring 12 actors performing 55 different roles, the production is a significant artistic endeavor for the Durrës theater scene.

Context: Written by Anisa Markarian, a well-known figure in Albanian cinema and beyond, “15 April Days” is a satirical drama set in communist-era Albania. The play’s director, Driada Dervishi, described the production as a unique challenge, emphasizing its authentic Albanian narrative and the complexity of staging such a multifaceted performance.

“One of the most difficult yet grandest undertakings of ‘Aleksandër Moisiu’ Theater,” said director Driada Dervishi.

Actor Amos Zaharia also highlighted the significance of the premiere, noting that the production is a major artistic challenge that elevates the Durrës theater ensemble. The cast features renowned names from Albania’s National Theater, adding further prestige to the performance.
