Ura e Mesit (the Mesi Bridge), an 18th-century bridge over the Kir River in Shkodër, has become a popular tourist destination following recent restoration efforts.

Context: The restoration highlights Albania’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting tourism in the north. The site is drawing both locals and international visitors, who are captivated by its beauty and historical significance.

Tourist impressions: Prime Minister Edi Rama shared photos and videos of the bridge on social media, celebrating its transformation. “Ura e Mesit is becoming a favorite spot for tourists to capture memories from Albania,” Rama noted. A visiting Italian tourist featured in the video described the bridge as “spectacular.”

“We came specifically to see it. We’re spending a few days in Albania and fell in love with the country,” the tourist said.

The footage shows both locals and tourists taking photos, children playing near the river, and scenic views of the bridge, which has quickly become a major attraction in northern Albania.

A historical and architectural gem: Built in 1768, Ura e Mesit, which gets its name from the nearby Mes village, is a remarkable piece of cultural and architectural heritage. Spanning 108 meters with a width of 3.4 meters, the bridge features 13 asymmetrical arches and is constructed with carved stones and stone slabs.

The surrounding landscape—with clear waters and rocky terrain—adds to the bridge’s charm, making it one of the most picturesque spots in Shkodër and a growing attraction for tourists.
