Free textbooks for over 239 thousand Albanian students
The Ministry of Education and Sports has allocated over $9 million to provide free textbooks to more than 238,000 students this year.
Why is this significant
The program seeks to ease the financial strain on thousands of Albanian families. It benefits approximately 227,000 pupils from grades 1 to 9, who will receive free textbooks. An additional 12,500 high school students (grades 9 to 12) coming from specific social backgrounds, will also receive support for their educational materials.
This free textbook support program is particularly focused on students from families facing social and economic challenges, as well as those needing special support, including children with disabilities and those from minority groups.
Textbooks will be distributed according to a set schedule, coordinated with teachers and parents, to ensure that all students receive their materials on time.

Albanian PM Edi Rama and European Economic and Social Committee President Oliver Röpke announced the initiative at a press conference. Rama stressed, “It brings us a lot of new energy that we have been able to create the Joint Advisory Committee, which is not only proof of our commitment but also of our strong belief that the integration process is not just a matter for the government but for all citizens, including civil society. It allows us to show our citizens and stakeholders, not just through our words but through this institution, how important it is that the path to EU membership is one that involves all of civil society, not just a few actors.”
