Survey of voter intentions reveals clear advantage for ruling Socialists ahead of parliamentary elections
A recent survey by JAVANEWS shows that around 2 million Albanian citizens, both within and outside the country, are already committed to voting in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Why is this significant
The survey is unique as it includes both domestic voters and Albanians living abroad, who will have the option to vote by mail from their current residences for the first time in the 2023 elections.
Key Findings:
- Among approximately 1.95 million eligible voters living in Albania, about 1.45 million are committed to voting. Of these, 51% plan to vote for the Socialist Party (PS), 29.3% for the Democratic Party (PD), 3.8% for other established parties, and 15.9% for newly formed parties.
- Out of around 1.75 million eligible voters living outside Albania, about 550,000 are committed to voting. Among them, 43.6% plan to vote for PS, 30.9% for PD, 2.7% for other established parties, and 22.7% for newly formed parties.
- Combining results from both groups, approximately 2 million citizens are set to vote. Of these, 49% support PS, 29.8% back PD, 3.5% prefer other established parties, and 17.8% favor newly formed parties.
According to these results, despite the Socialist Party receiving the support of slightly less than half the committed voters, the results would give it over half of the parliamentary seats due to the electoral system’s design.
