The high influx of tourists during the height of the season has seriously tested TIA, forcing to adopt a number of measures in order to fend off any serious problems with delays and flight schedules. In a social media post the Airport emphasized that in order to avoid last-minute confusion and rush passengers are recommended to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight time.

The airport also advises passengers to print their boarding passes beforehand to expedite the process at security checkpoints while passengers with baggage are advised to check in at the counter, which typically opens 2 hours and 30 minutes before departure.

Albania’s tourism sector has seen remarkable growth this year, with Tirana International Airport leading the way in passenger increases across Europe. In July 2024 alone, the airport welcomed 1,191,182 passengers, a significant rise from 834,113 in July 2023. From January to July 2024, the airport served 5,982,066 passengers, up from 3,723,613 in the same period of 2023. This seven-month period in 2024 has seen an impressive increase of 1,113,908 passengers, reflecting the booming popularity of Albania as a travel destination.
