5th Albanian Diaspora Women’s Summit focuses on EU integration

The 5th Albanian Diaspora Women’s Summit took place today in Tirana, hosted by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the German Embassy, and the Diaspora Agency. The summit focused on empowering women in the diaspora and discussed policies that link migration with development, emphasizing stronger collaboration among women worldwide.

Why is this significant: The event highlighted the key role of Albanian women in the diaspora in advancing the country’s EU integration process. Linda Rama, an expert on public policy, stressed that Albania’s journey toward joining the European Union must be a collective effort. She noted that this responsibility falls on the current generation, which has experienced communism and the transitional period. The diaspora’s contribution is seen as vital to accelerating Albania’s progress towards EU membership, especially in terms of development and leadership.

Context: The summit, organized by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the National Diaspora Agency, and the Diaspora Business Chamber, gathered women from the Albanian diaspora for the fifth year in a row. The theme, “Leading the Way to the European Union,” emphasized the leadership role of women in the diaspora. Discussions also covered how Albania can harmonize resources to carry out impactful projects that will speed up EU integration.
